Crushing victory by Congress:
As soon as the counting of votes began, today at 9 am, the Congress started getting the lead and till the end, the party was able to achieve a crushing victory. Azad Group, which was said to be the main opponent of Congress, hardly managed to survive the battleground. However, BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) and SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) failed to open their accounts and the duo was completely wiped out. The enmity of the people for these two parties at a huge level might be the reason behind this plight of theirs.
Cong mayor-face Jeeti Sidhu gets one-sided victory:
Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu won with a staggering margin of 925 votes by beating Paramjit Kahlon of the Azad group in the most sensitive ward number 10. It is the ward where re-polling was conducted and due to which the results of MC were postponed to February 18. Jeeti Sidhu is likely to be the next mayor of Mohali
Ex-mayor fails to secure his seat, while his son attains victory:
The former mayor of Mohali and the head of Azad Group, Kulwant Singh, had a very sad day as he wasn't able to maintain his seat (ward number 42). He lost to Amrik Singh Somal (Congress) by 267 votes. However, the victory of his son, Sarbjit Singh from ward number 38, was the only happy moment felt by his family today. Sarbjit hardly managed to beat Congress candidate, Pradeep Soni by 20 votes.
Mohali Cop’s wife wins with maximum margin:
Congress candidate Baljit Kaur, who had contested from ward number 7, got a maximum number (1751) of votes in MC elections. She has beaten Manjit Kaur (Independent) with a huge margin of 1574 votes. Baljit Kaur is the wife of Manphul Singh, an inspector in Mohali Police.
Sr. deputy mayor and deputy mayor retains their seats:
However, the former mayor lost this election but the former senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor were able to retain their seats. Congress candidate Rishav Jain (former sr. deputy mayor) won from ward number 20 while his wife, Raj Rani Jain also got the victory from ward number 19. Contesting as an independent candidate, the former deputy mayor, Manjit Sethi also won from ward number 2 with a huge margin.
